Learn Cosmetology at Mooseheart

The Cosmetology program at Mooseheart provides students with the knowledge, skills, and hands-on experience needed to begin a successful career in the beauty industry. In Illinois, aspiring cosmetologists must complete 1,500 hours of coursework and practical skills to qualify for the state exam and obtain their cosmetology license. Our program is designed to ensure that students meet these requirements and gain a solid foundation in the field.

Key Components of the Program

Hair Care

Learn cutting, coloring, and styling techniques for all hair types.

Skincare

Learn treatments, skincare products, and rejuvenation techniques.

Nail Technology

Learn nail enhancements, designs, and professional care.

Makeup Application

Learn techniques for beauty, editorial, and special events.

Salon Management

Develop business, leadership, and customer service skills.

Cosmetology Career Pathways

Graduates of the program will be equipped to pursue a wide range of career opportunities, including:

  • Hairstylists or Color Specialists
  • Estheticians or Skincare Consultants
  • High School diploma required (College degree preferred), experience is a plus – but not necessary
  • Ability to work within a team approach and possess conflict-management skills

Cosmetology Program Curriculum Overview

Over the course of three years, students receive a well-rounded education that prepares them for both the technical and business aspects of cosmetology.

Year 1

Building a Strong Foundation

In their first year, students focus on building a strong base of knowledge and skills.

Year 2

Advanced Skills & Theoretical Insights in Hair Care

The second year emphasizes refining these foundational skills through practical applications, theory, and the science behind hair care.

Year 3

Independent Learning & Exam Preparation

In their final year, students engage in independent learning, mastering advanced techniques while also learning essential business strategies, safety practices, ethics, professionalism, and hygiene. This year also includes focused preparation for the state exam.

Certifications & Accreditations

Once students complete their 1,500 hours, we ensure all necessary paperwork is in order and cover the cost of their state exam. Students who have completed the required hours but need additional time can transfer their hours to another institution to finish the program and receive their license. We assist students in finding a nearby school to complete their training, as most schools accept transferred hours.

Our Cosmetology Lab
